Dr. William Wheat, Jr.

Dr. William “Bill” Wheat, Jr., is a lifelong resident of the Ponchatoula- Hammond area. He graduated from Ponchatoula High School in 1976 and attended Louisiana State University undergraduate school. In 1980 he graduated from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. He established Animal Care Center in May 1983 and watched its growth from the original three employees up to the current twenty-seven employees. He served as president of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association in 1993 and currently serves on the Continuing Education Committee for the Southwest Veterinary Medical Association. He has been active in many local civic and community organizations including the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival, Chamber of Commerce, and Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball. He currently serves as chairperson of the Ponchatoula Area Recreational Department overseeing the recreational facilities at the North Hoover Road complex. Dr. Wheat served as chairperson of the committee that established the Tangipahoa Parish Animal Control Facility and helped write the animal control ordinance for the Parish. He is married to Andrea Hebert Wheat and has four children, Derek, Dana, Kristen, and Kellie. He enjoys spending time with family and friends at his camp on the Tangipahoa River. Dr. Wheat works at both the Hammond and Ponchatoula offices and welcomes you to stop by and get acquainted with our facilities and staff.

Dr. Darryl Bubrig

Dr. Darryl Bubrig Jr. has been a resident of the Hammond-Ponchatoula area since graduating from LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He grew up in Plaquemines parish and graduated from Delta Heritage Academy in 1980. He attended Tulane University and graduated with a degree in Biology in 1984. He joined Animal Care Center in 1988 and became a partner to Dr Wheat in 1990. He has served as President of the Florida Parrishes Veterinary Medical Association and served as a board member for the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association. He currently serves the community as a commissioner for the Tangipahoa Mosquito Abatement District. He is married to Lynette Callon Bubrig and they share four children Brittany, Beau, Kennedy and Brady. He enjoys spending time with family, friends and pets in all sorts of outdoor activities. Dr Bubrig works at both the Hammond and Ponchatoula clinics and looks forward to meeting new people and pets and having the opportunity to provide the best veterinary service possible.

Dr. Liza Nemeroff Ledet

Dr. Liza Nemeroff Ledet PhotoDr. Liza Nemeroff Ledet was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She has always had a special love for animals and realized at a young age she would pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Ledet obtained her B.S. in Biology from Temple University in 2003. She was accepted to the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine the same year. During veterinary school, she was an active chairperson of several organizations including the Emergency and Critical Care Society and Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.  Dr. Ledet was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with honors in 2007. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Parishes Veterinary Medical Association, and the Veterinary Honor Society, Phi Zeta. Dr. Ledet has cared for pets at Animal Care Center since 2007. Internal medicine, dermatology, emergency and critical care, and oncology are among her many professional interests. In her spare time, Dr. Ledet spends quality time with her family, friends, and pets. She can often be found at the local gym or enjoying the outdoors. She enjoys traveling, scuba diving, gardening, tennis, and cooking.  She lives in Tickfaw, LA with her husband, Lenny and their two dogs, Rocco, a German Shepherd mix and Ruby, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever.

Dr. Elizabeth Dickinson

Dr. Elizabeth C. Dickinson is a Louisiana native from Buras, LA. Her undergraduate studies at LSU earned her a BS in Animal Science in 2002. She then worked as a zookeeper at Audubon Zoo until she was accepted into veterinary school a year later. Dr. Dickinson earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduating, she moved to Las Vegas, NV where she practiced as an associate at a small animal clinic for one year. Dr. Dickinson then returned home to Louisiana and joined our staff in June 2008. Her professional interests include dermatology and oncology. When not at the clinic, she spends her free time with family and friends. Some of her hobbies include reading, gardening, fishing, playing softball, and enjoying LSU and Saints football. She currently resides in Covington,LA with her Boxer, Koda and Puggle, Honey.


Dr. Melanie Lavergne

Dr. Melanie Lavergne is originally from Baker, LA. She obtained her BS in Animal Science at Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) in 1982 where she graduated with magna cum laude honors. While at SLU, she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the 13 Club Honor Society. Dr. Lavergne later attended Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. After graduation, she worked as a small animal veterinarian in LaPlace for 10 years. She has been a member of our staff since 1998. Dr. Lavergne is married with four grown sons. She enjoys spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies include camping, gardening, and reading. Dr. Lavergne is presently a member of the AVMA, LVMA, and the local Florida Parishes Veterinary Medical Association.
